Hello Gents,
Stumbled across an article today that I thought would interest you. The down side is it may make big AL happy. Give it a read and let me know what you think.

James,
ReplyDeleteThis was an interesting article, although the author does little to hide his disdain for all things "emerging". Not sure I really buy his argument that Rob Bell's sermon on the Resurrection equates to his throwing in the towel either.
My read of Bell's quote keeps him right where we tend to always find him--focused on the redemptive work of God on this world and in this time. I love Bell's sermons, as they tend to draw from this perspective: God is very much interested in creation--the earth, social systems, poverty, wealth, the environment--and is not simply interested in destroying the whole thing in order that we might all one day be stagnantly perfect in "heaven".
If Bell had preached a sermon that had focused on the resurrection being the "victory over sin and damnation" that "purchased our pardon" for when "we all get called up yonder" I might be willing to concede that he's taking Mars Hill in a different direction.
I had no idea these types of articles were out there, so I found it very interesting.
I also found this comment from Pastor Roy rather disturbing, as it seems to suggest a rather limited reading of scripture:

These practices are expressed in or lead to the other six: welcoming the stranger, serving with generosity, participating as producers, creating as created beings, leading as a body, and taking part in spiritual activities.

where do you find these in God’s Word?
